No More Excuses: Breaking Free from the Chains of Self-Sabotage!

Little Bit Of This And A Little Bit Of That

By Rosanne Santos

In life Ladies, offering nothing but excuses is a dishonest approach, especially towards ourselves. While excuses might appear rational to avoid certain tasks or challenges, they can hinder our progress and prevent us from achieving our goals. Often, we accept excuses as valid reasons for our failures, instead of seeking alternatives. But if we truly acknowledge our choices and take responsibility for them, we will notice excuses vanishing from our lives. By keeping our focus on our goals, excuses will fade away, and obstacles will transform into valuable challenges, contributing to our growth and resilience.

At times, we tend to give others excuses instead of being entirely truthful. We might believe that sparing someone's feelings is an act of kindness, but this only perpetuates falsehoods. Instead, if we can honestly and gently communicate our feelings, the other person is free to find a more suitable companion while we can pursue our genuine interests. By doing so, we can invest our energy in building fulfilling relationships and lives.

Furthermore, excuses drain our energy, particularly when we let our thoughts and words succumb to them. For instance, using financial constraints as an excuse to avoid contributing to a cause attracts scarcity into our lives. Similarly, fabricating excuses, even for minor issues like feigning illness, only complicates matters with deceptive smokescreens. Instead, if we commit to our priorities, take ownership of our choices, and communicate honestly with others, there will be no need for excuses. Consequently, we will have more energy to dedicate to our passions and pursuits.

I am in control of my thoughts, and I choose to focus on the present moment with gratitude and optimism.

Mice, Mice, Baby

The Story

Officials busted a California lab filled with nearly 1,000 illegally bioengineered mice.

How is that true?

It just is. In a “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” spinoff no one asked for, news came out that county health officials this spring uncovered a secret medical lab in Fresno. This all came out because officials found a garden hose back in March illegally attached to the building. Turns out, it was part of a suspected den used to test hundreds of mice and substances with at least 20 disease agents, including HIV, herpes, E. Coli, and malaria. They were also reportedly trying to make COVID more transmissible.

Why?

Ask Prestige BioTech. That’s the company that court documents describe as having “empty offices or addresses in China that could not be verified.” Still, one representative told The San Joaquin Valley Sun that the company was, in fact, working to analyze the spread of COVID and see if test kits were accurate. Officials euthanized the mice in July. But questions about the company remain — like who really operates it, what exactly it was trying to achieve, and whether there are other labs out there like it.

After years of a devastating pandemic, we all know just how dangerous and disruptive pathogens can be. Now, news of an illegal lab whose intentions can’t be pinned down is putting a spotlight on the need to ensure labs like these do not become more common.

*Knowledge Is Powerful Ladies

Choosing between a Roth IRA and a 401(k) depends on your financial needs and retirement goals.

  • A 401(k) is a retirement savings plan opened with your employer, and contributions are deducted from your pre-tax income.

  • A Roth IRA is an individual retirement account opened with a brokerage firm, and contributions are made after taxes.

  • With a 401(k), your employer may match your contributions, and pre-tax money can lead to faster growth in retirement savings.

  • A Roth IRA offers tax-free withdrawals after age 59 1/2, providing more flexibility in retirement planning.

  • Roth IRA contributions are limited to earned income, with a maximum of $6,000 per year for those under 50 and $7,000 for those 50 and older.

  • For a 401(k), the contribution limits are up to $20,500 per year for individuals under 50 and up to $27,000 for those 50 and older.

  • You can invest in both a Roth IRA and a 401(k) simultaneously if you meet the eligibility criteria for both accounts.

  • The choice between a 401(k) and a Roth IRA should consider factors like investment options, employer contributions, and tax considerations.
