In an attempt to preserve our home's value, we sacrifice our unique design preferences and opt for the safest, most generic options like neutral finishes, stainless steel appliances, and Pinterest-approved decor.

But let's face it, while a beige, open-plan living room might attract buyers, it can suck the life out of your soul. Some participants in the study expressed regret, longing for more personalization in their homes. One person even compared their bathroom to a hotel restroom—ouch!

Here's the cold, hard truth: design choices really do affect resale value. Even if you despise the idea of a charcoal-gray kitchen, you might want to consider it if you're a fan of money. According to Zillow, having one could increase your home's value by a whopping $2,512.

So, thanks to HGTV and its army of home makeover shows, we're all slowly turning into clones of one another, living in carbon-copy houses. Let's not forget to add a touch of personal flair to our dwellings and break free from the monotony. After all, your home should be a reflection of you, not just a sellable commodity.
